Police investigating Ballyclare ‘reckless’ driving footage

Police have launched an investigation after footage appearing to show vehicles racing round Ballyclare town centre was shared on social media this week.

Tuesday, 6th October 2020, 11:47 am

The clip, lasting 28 seconds, features a BMW car being driven “recklessly” around The Square and Main Street while a passenger in another speeding vehicle records the incident.

In a statement issued to the Newtownabbey Times, a PSNI spokesperson confirmed officers are aware of the video and are investigating.

South Antrim MLA, Pam Cameron has condemned those behind the video which was uploaded to social media at the weekend.

Footage showing a vehicle skidding across lanes in The Square area of Ballyclare.

The DUP representative said: “I have spoken to the PSNI about the video which has been widely shared across social media showing two vehicles racing at considerable speed around the town square.

“The footage shows one silver vehicle in particular skidding across the traffic lanes. They are putting themselves and others lives at serious risk by this reckless behaviour.

“At a time when our emergency services are under extreme pressure, this sort of anti-social behaviour is even more disgraceful and selfish.

“I would encourage anyone who recognises the vehicles or knows who was involved to get in touch with the PSNI on the non-emergency 101 number.”
