Racist Euro 2020 final video being examined by PSNI
Police have confirmed to the Newtownabbey Times that they are examining a video which includes a number of racial slurs, after it was shared online in the wake of England’s Euro 2020 defeat to Italy at the weekend.
The footage, which shows a number of young women watching the penalty shoot out, has been shared hundreds of times since being posted to Twitter yesterday (Tuesday).
After Bukayo Saka’s decisive penalty was saved by Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, securing victory for Roberto Mancini’s side, one of the women - speaking in a Northern Irish accent - makes a number of racist comments and appears to blame the black players in the team for England’s defeat.
Police have said officers are investigating the footage to establish if a crime has been committed.
In a statement issued to the Times, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a video circulating online. We are examining the content in order to establish if a crime has been committed.”
