A handbag that had been stolen from a widow at a local cemetery has been returned to its owner following a police appeal.
The bag was stolen from a parked car in Ballyclare Cemetery on Tuesday, March 6.
Commenting at the time, Sergeant Adrian Keon said: “It was reported that sometime between 4.30pm and 5pm the bag was taken which contained a sum of money, cash cards, a passport and a number of items of jewellery of great sentimental value.
“These included a signet ring and rose gold wedding ring.
“This was a despicable act perpetrated against a person visiting the grave of a loved one.”
Confirming the bag had been recovered, a police spokesperson said: “The handbag was located at the Tamlaght Road junction of the Ballymartin Road yesterday (March 7).
“A sum of cash was taken from the bag, but thankfully the jewellery, which was of sentimental value, was returned to the owner. Police continue to appeal for information.”
