Principal Ricky Massey issued the appeal after an incident in the Ballyclare Road area yesterday (Thursday).

Mr Massey said: “A pupil arrived into school yesterday morning and made a disclosure that on his way to school, a male stopped his vehicle at the roadside and ushered the pupil to approach the car. The pupil fled the scene and arrived into school and reported the incident. The school discussed the incident with the parent of the pupil and the PSNI.

“Whilst we are unaware of any actual sinister intent, we would encourage parents to continue to speak with their children about ‘stranger danger’ and follow the example of this pupil who took the correct action by leaving the scene and immediately reporting the incident.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an incident involving a 13-year-old boy in the Ballyclare Road area of Newtownabbey. Investigations are ongoing.”
