DOG owners who attended Monday night’s council meeting at Mossley Mill said they were “shocked and dismayed” at the decision to refer the Dogs on Leads Order back to the committee stage.
A statement issued by ‘Newtownabbey Dog Walkers’ group representatives Sheila Sloan, Jenny McLaren, Jillian Davis and Sandra Snounou on Tuesday said: “Councillors must realise the depth of feeling that there is on this matter given the huge turnout of dog walkers at the council meeting.
“To ensure that we do not lose the freedom to walk our dogs off-lead in our parks, we would ask all dog walkers to attend the Environment meeting at Mossley Mill on Monday, June 10 at 7.15pm and contact/email your local councillors to express your views on the matter.”
The statement added: “This Dog Control Order is neither necessary nor proportionate and the sooner common sense prevails the better. Defend your right to walk your dog off-lead in your parks.”
