NEWTOWNABBEY police have made two huge drug seizures in the past week, which they say has put a massive dent in the local black market in illegal substances and hit the criminal underworld hard.

On Sunday, November 20, a police raid uncovered a cannabis factory operating in a house on the Ballynure Road in Ballyclare.

It is believed the total amount of drugs seized had an estimated street value of upwards of £250,000.

The raid comes just days after another factory was uncovered in Glengormley.

On Thursday, November 17, police found a number of cannabis plants in a house in Glenvarna Walk.

A 42-year-old man was charged with cultivating cannabis and possession of Class B drugs and will appear in Belfast Magistrates’ Court on December 13.

Police Area Commander Chief Inspector Derek McCamley said the success of both operations came down to help from the community and good police work.
