THE Democratic Unionist Party was due to nominate its Newtownabbey Council election candidates on Wednesday (April 6).
However, at the time of going to print it still wasn’t clear if prominent Glengormley councillor Nigel Hamilton would be among those handing in nomination papers at Mossley Mill.
Senior party officials met in Belfast on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the fallout from weekend press allegations about alderman Hamilton’s personal life. And it is understood that opinion was split about what action, if any, the party could take regarding the claims levelled against the Antrim Line representative.
