Author and screenplay writer Colin Bateman visited Hazelwood Integrated College as part of Literacy and Numeracy Week.
Colin’s notable works include TV series ‘Murphy’s Law’, starring Broughshane actor James Nesbitt, and the ‘Dan Starkey’ novels.
During his visit, Colin, from Bangor, talked to year eight, nine and ten pupils and signed copies of his latest book “Running with the Reservoir Dogs”.
Colin has also written a series of books for children including Titanic 2020, which was short-listed for the 2008 Salford Children’s Book Award.
Hazelwood College librarian, Jackie Braun said that Colin’s visit had “generated much excitement, particularly amongst year eight students who have been reading Titanic 2020 during their library reading groups”.
She added: “I’m sure his talk will inspire our students to read more and encourage them in their own writing.”
This was the first time the college has dedicated an entire week for students to focus on literacy and numeracy. Various activity sessions and events took place throughout the week aimed at raising standards in literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.
