A statement issued this week by Forum chairperson Valerie Jenkins and secretary Norman Ramsay says a bypass road is needed to alleviate daily traffic congestion problems.

“Whilst TransportNI officials were present in the town recently to witness ‘excessive’ traffic movements which are due, at the moment, to the emergency and temporary closure of the Station Road in Doagh, nevertheless it must be noted that traffic related problems in the town have been increasing year on year,” the statement said.

“The Ballyclare of old is now a modern town with growing community, residential and business needs. The road infrastructure therefore requires an adjustment to reflect this expansion in the area.

“We hope that our politicians and authorities will work together so that a solution to our traffic requirements will be found in the very near future. Meanwhile we would ask that all road users observe the Highway Code which was designed to assist all of us to travel in safety to and from our destinations.”
