Meanwhile, local members marked International Women’s Day with a talk about social reformer, Mary Ann McCracken at their last meeting.
Paula Reynolds, Chief Executive, Clifton House Belfast gave an informative and entertaining talk at the society’s meeting.
She spoke about Clifton House / Belfast’s Poor House and the life of Mary Ann McCracken (1770-1866) who in many respects was a woman ahead of her time, interested in issues such as poverty and slavery.
She worked tirelessly to improve the education and conditions of many orphans, giving them a better future.
