Heartless thieves steal handbag in cemetery

Police are appealing for information after a handbag was stolen from a car parked at Ballyclare Cemetery yesterday.

It is understood the theft occurred between 4.30pm and 5pm.

Detailing the incident, a police spokesperson said: “The victim of this theft was visiting the grave of her late husband and there are items of sentimental value within the bag, including a signet ring and rose gold wedding ring.

“Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who noticed any suspicious activity to come forward and make contact with Constable Scott. Crime reference number 1167 of 06/03/2018 refers.”

The theft follows a burglary at the cemetery over the weekend, which saw over £40,000 worth of machinery stolen. The burglary is understood to have occurred sometime between 1pm on Saturday, March 3 and 8am on Monday, March 5.

Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident reference number 176 5/3/18.
