Man threatened with knife during robbery and attempted hijacking in Glengormley

Police have arrested two men following a robbery and attempted hijacking on the Antrim Road in Glengormley last night, Tuesday, July 19.

At around 11.30pm a man was approached by two males outside a restaurant near the O’Neill Road junction. He was threatened with a knife and forced to hand over his wallet.

The robbers then tried to smash their way into a parked vehicle before pulling open the door and attempting to drag the driver from the car. When this failed, they made off on foot.

Two suspects, both aged 20, were arrested a short distance away and two knives were recovered.

Detective Sergeant Emme Wallace commented: “The pair remain in custody this morning assisting us with our enquiries.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any other information relating to it. Detectives can be contacted in Antrim by calling 101, quoting reference 1568 19/07/16.”
