SATURDAY night (July 2) saw the Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Billy Webb, host his Inaugural Dinner at the Theatre at The Mill, Mossley Mill.
The spectacular setting at Mossley Mill was ideal on the balmy summer evening with guests enjoying the atmosphere in the Civic Square before dinner.
The event was attended by guests from across the borough and beyond, including volunteers from charities, MLAs, other Mayors, Freemen of the Borough, aldermen and councillors.
During his speech the Mayor thanked his fellow council members for electing him as Mayor and highlighted the three charities he has chosen to support during his Mayoral year, namely the Gis A Hug Foundation, Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and Médecins Sans Frontières MSF (Doctors Without Borders).
The theme of the evening was ‘Celebrating the role of local charity volunteers’, and the Mayor during his speech thanked all of those in the borough who volunteer for charities and provide vital support for the local community.
He said he was pleased to able to have a number of such individuals at the event, particularly as 2011 is the European Year of Volunteering.
On the evening guests made donations to the Mayor’s charities totalling over £1,300.
