Minute’s silence for soldier and warder

LOCAL councillors stood for a minute’s silence at their monthly Environment Committee meeting on Monday evening (November 5) in memory of murdered prison officer David Black and Comber soldier Channing Day, who was killed in Afghanistan last month.

Responding to a suggestion from DUP councillor Jackie Mann that the committee should pay its respects to Corporal Day and Mr Black, council officers, aldermen and councillors from all parties stood in silence with their heads bowed.

Cpl Channing Day, a 25-year-old Army medic, was shot dead while on patrol in Helmand Province on October 24.

David Black, a 52-year-old father-of-two, was murdered as he drove to work along the M1 in Co Armagh on November 1.
