Minute’s silence in council chamber to honour Alan McDonald

A MINUTE’S silence was held in the council chamber on Monday night (June 25) to honour local footballing hero Alan McDonald who died suddenly on Saturday, aged 48.

During the traditional prayer before council meetings, Deputy Mayor Fraser Agnew described Alan as a “tremendous character”.

The Deputy Mayor said he had known Alan, who hailed from Rathcoole, since he was a young boy, and he recalled how the sporty youth had spent a lot of his spare time in the Valley Leisure Centre.

Alderman Agnew said he was also well acquainted with Alan’s brothers Roy and Jim McDonald.

“The council would like to remember the family at this sad time, and to let them know our thoughts are with Alan’s wife and the family circle. We remember the entire McDonald family during this their time of sorrow and sadness,” he said.
