THE council is to run a pilot scheme offering free use of two mobility scooters for the elderly and disabled visiting Carnmoney Cemetery.
The council is to run the service from May 1 for six months in order to help improve access to the site.
Council officials found that many of the bereaved were elderly and had difficulty accessing all areas of the cemetery given its expansion in size over the years.
At this month’s Leisure Committee meeting (April 8) councillors welcomed the motion and urged the council to ensure it was adequately promoted.
Councillor Jackie Mann said: “It should be advertised on the Nolan show. He is very quick to criticise us, lets see him say something positive for a change.”
Council deputy chief executive, Hugh Kelly said the scheme would be publicised among community groups and in the Source magazine.
