TESCO in Northcott is set to close on Easter Saturday, the Times understands.
Staff working at the supermarket have told this newspaper the store will close on April 23.
And the new ‘Sandyknowes Shopping Centre’, as it is to be called, will re-open on site in November.
However, Tesco would only say the closure date was one “possible scenario”.
Fencing went up around the shopping centre site this week, in preparation for upgrade work which has been in the pipeline for over a decade.
Staff members of the centre’s anchor tenant, Tesco, said they had all had one-to-one discussions with senior management about their work options.
It is believed some staff will relocate to the supermarket giant’s Abbeycentre and Carnmoney Road stores, while other employees have decided to retire instead.
A staff member told the Times building work had already begun in the store.
