Old Vehicle Club members get in gear for annual run to Portrush

This year, the charity chosen by the club was the NI Hospice ‘Buy a Brick’ campaign, which is raising money to rebuild the charity’s Somerton House adult hospice facility.

On the day of the event, club members enjoyed a cooked breakfast at Mossley Mill, supplied by Newtownabbey Borough Council.

The 108 cars dating from the 1930s to the early 1990s then headed in cavalcade towards Portrush’s Dunluce Centre for a static 
display.

The cars were led by the oldest car, a 1935 Wolseley Hornet, driven by Kenneth Dowse.

Despite the inclement weather, crowds flocked to see the cars as they arrived at Portrush’s Dunluce Centre. The rain did not deter the ladies from the Coleraine Branch of the NI Hospice, who were determined to raise more money for their charity.

EAOVC would like to thank Coleraine Borough Council for the use of the Dunluce Centre, especially Ken Little who assisted the club at short notice.

At 4.30pm, club members left the Dunluce Centre to enjoy an evening meal, ballots and awards at Portrush’s Royal Court Hotel.

After dinner, raffle prizes were drawn and several others were auctioned off. In the ballot, Katheryn Anderson from Ballyclare won the first prize of a weekend for two at the Royal Court Hotel, which was donated by the hotel. The second prize, a netbook computer, was won by Bert McMaw from Carrickfergus, while Ronnie Kirkham from Newtownabbey won the third prize-a meal for two at The Carvery, donated by the Clarion Hotel, Carrick
fergus.

EAOVC would like to thank the marshals who gave up their time to help the event run smoothly, the AA for their excellent support and the drivers and passengers, without whom the event could not have been held.

The club would also like to thank the Portrush Committee, who put a great deal of work into organising the event.
