THE new one-way system on Portland Avenue in Glengormley is to be phased in over the weekend and will become fully operational on Monday (October 10).
Roads Service workers started work on the scheme today (Friday, October 7) which will reduce traffic to one-way from the Carnmoney Road direction onto the Ballyclare Road.
There will also be new parking bays introduced to help ease congestion through the town and, it’s hoped, improve business.
Ed Burns, chair of the Glengormley Traders’ Association, which has been lobbying for the change, welcomed the work.
A Roads Service spokeswoman said: “It is planned to have the Portland Avenue one-way system and parking bays operational for Monday morning. This is several months ahead of schedule.”
