Pensioner assaulted at bonfire site

Police have issued an appeal for information about an incident in the New Mossley estate earlier this month during which a pensioner was assaulted.

Although the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, July 12, the PSNI only released the details today (July 21).

“It was reported that sometime between midnight and 12.30am a 75-year-old man was assaulted at the bonfire site by a number of unknown persons. The man was taken to hospital for treatment for a cut lip and bruising to this face and ribs as a result,” a police spokesperson explained.

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the assault or anyone with any information to contact them at Newtownabbey Station on the non-emergency number, 101.

Information can also be passed on anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
