Coronavirus: Rathcoole residents play bingo during lockdown to support local charities

A group of kindhearted residents from the Linford Green area of Rathcoole have raised over £450 for charitable organisations during the coronavirus pandemic.

Monday, 11th May 2020, 4:18 pm
Retired DUP Councillor Billy Decourcy joined the celebrations with his family.

Over the past four weeks, members of the community have enjoyed playing ‘Street Bingo’ while supporting charities currently struggling financially during the lockdown restrictions.

They raised £115 for the NHS on April 18, £130 for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice on April 25, £70 for Action for Children on May 3 and £140 for Women’s Aid on May 9.

An additional £40 was put towards decorations/food for VE Day street garden party on May 3.

Commenting on the generous fundraising efforts, Natasha Guerin, said: “I first had the idea of setting up Street Bingo four weeks ago and I never thought it would have made such an impact, but it has brought our wee street together. It has brought neighbours to the garden for a chat and created new friendships.

“Covid-19 has affected us all, but Linford Green remains positive and it shows in each and every person.”
