The Brodison family, who are members of Ballyduff Silver Band, have been performing outside their home in the Magheramorne area of east Antrim on Thursday evenings.

Commenting on the kindhearted effort, conductor of Ballyduff Silver Band, Willie Hill, said: “This is a difficult time for all bands as they are unable to rehearse and perform in public, although many of the band’s members still practise at home.

“The Brodison family came to Ballyduff Silver Band eight years ago. Dad Nigel plays trombone, and mum Rachel plays baritone.

“The three boys all play in the band. Sam is the oldest and plays cornet, as does Michael the youngest. John in the middle plays percussion, but is also a very talented flautist.

“To give their support to the NHS workers, they began playing hymn tunes at their front door on Thursday nights. Soon the repertoire expanded to take in musicals, films and pop tunes. These were broadcast on the band’s Facebook page, and one week they had over 3,000 views.

“As well as playing, the family all participate in the band’s cooking competition ‘The Great Ballyduff Bake Off.’

“This started as a one off, but such was the enthusiasm from band members, it is now a weekly event. The band are currently assembling a recipe book which will be available initially online, with all proceeds going to the vital work of the NHS. A hard copy will be available in the near future.”
