A 20-year-old man who was assaulted outside licensed premises in the Monkstown Avenue area on Friday, August 22 was the victim of “an appalling act of violence”, police have said.

It’s understood the man is being treated in hospital for a fractured skull after being assaulted by an unknown male in the car park of Nortel Social Club. The incident happened at around 12.45am.

“This was an appalling act of violence which has left a young man with serious and potentially life-changing injuries,” said Newtownabbey PSNI Inspector Stephen McGuigan. “There were a significant number of people in the area and I ask for anyone who witnessed the incident or who knows anything about what happened, before, during or after this man was attacked to come and talk to us.”

He appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to call investigating officers at Newtownabbey Station on the non-emergency number, 101.

Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
