The incident happened shortly after 3am on Monday, December 29.
“Initial enquiries suggest an accelerant appears to have been placed through the letterbox of the front door to an upstairs flat and set alight,” said Detective Constable Montgomery.
Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the scene and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and quickly extinguished the blaze.
Damage was caused to the door and hallway of the property.
