POLICE in Ballyclare launched a major search operation this week after receiving information that a body may be buried in the garden of a house in the Ollardale estate.
Officers arrived at the house in Hawthorn Way on Monday morning (July 4) and began excavation work at the rear of the property.
The scene was sealed off overnight, and on Tuesday a number of sniffer dogs were brought in as the operation continued.
At the time of going to print on Tuesday evening, specialist officers were still at the scene, continuing their painstaking search.
A PSNI spokesperson said the investigation had been launched after police received information suggesting that a body may have been buried under the patio at the rear of the terraced house.
“It is our responsibility to determine the validity of this information by carrying out all appropriate enquiries. One strand of these enquiries is the excavation work currently taking place. However, a thorough and detailed investigation is taking place which will examine the full circumstances of the information received.
