POLICE carried out searches at Ards Drive in Monkstown on Monday, September 3 after receiving information that a “suspicious device” may have been left in the area.
Nothing untoward was found during the operation and the incident was later declared a hoax. However, a PSNI spokesman advised local residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious objects to police.
“If members of the public notice anything out of the ordinary or find any suspicious objects, do not touch or attempt to move any item and contact local police immediately,” he commented.
Local Progressive Unionist Party representative Phil Hamilton said that police had been informed that a pipe bomb-type device had been left in the area.
“If people see anything suspicious they should contact the police immediately,” he added.
