Practical support for the independent retail sector

NEWTOWNABBEY Borough Council has launched an exciting new retail focused programme which will be delivered by Full Circle Management Solutions.

The Talking Retail Programme aims to assist owner-managers of independent retail businesses in the Newtownabbey council area to survive, consolidate and grow despite the challenging economic conditions.

Announcing the start of the recruitment phase of the Programme, Simon Devlin of Full Circle said: “We are looking for owner-managers of independent retail businesses in the Newtownabbey Borough Council area who want to grow and develop their retail business. We want to recruit owner-managers onto this programme who are committed to exploring avenues for growing retail sales and further enhancing their current retail business and we would urge local independent retailers to contact us to find out more about this exciting retail focussed programme.”

Participants on the programme will benefit from a series of practical skills development workshops covering topics including customer service, merchandising and effective marketing and online presence and from tailored one-to-one mentoring support where each business will be allocated a highly experienced mentor who will work with the owner-manager to build on existing strengths, address areas for development and exploit opportunities arising.

The new programme highlights the ongoing commitment of Newtownabbey Borough Council to support the small business economy in the region.

Ryan Black of Newtownabbey Borough Council commented: “We are actively seeking to help our independent retail sector, especially in the current challenging economic climate. The programmes that the council funds are all about generating commercial results and we are delighted to see this retail specific programme run from October 2012.”
