Rathcoole hijacking: Police renew appeal for witnesses

Detectives investigating a car hijacking in the Rathcoole estate last week have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward.

A woman was dragged from her black coloured Vauxhall Zafira car by an unknown male at Grainon Way at around 10pm on Thursday, July 28.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was left badly shaken.

The stolen vehicle was later found burnt out on Belfast’s Crumlin Road.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information about the hijacking to contact them.

“Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact detectives at Antrim Police Station on 101 quoting reference number 1437 of 28/07/2016. If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

Local DUP Councillor Paul Hamill condemned the hijacking and urged anyone with information that could help bring the perpetrator to justice to contact the police.
