Rathfern fence gets council approval

Newtownabbey Borough Council has granted permission for Rathfern Community Regeneration Group to erect a 1.8m fence at the rear of Rathfern Social Activity Centre.

The group, which operates the facility on behalf of the council, requested permission to erect the 1.8m high vertical timber board fence around the area to secure the space for groups using the centre.

The group has sourced funding for the purchase and installation of the fence, therefore there will be no cost to the council. However, council’s permission was required as it owns the land.

The motion was proposed by Councillor Jim Bingham and seconded by Councillor J Scott. Councillors were reminded that work had recently been completed to provide an open, hard-surfaced area to the rear of Rathfern Social Activity Centre.

This space can now be used by the community for small-scale events.
