Ballyclare residents have said they are being “tortured” by anti-social behaviour after a children’s play park opened on their doorsteps.
The new Sixmilewater play facility opened close to their Avondale Drive homes last week and has already attracted trouble and reportedly been vandalised - just as those living in the area predicted.
Residents say they have been plagued by young people gathering in the area late at night. They claim teenagers, some wearing masks, have been seen making lewd gestures, loud noises and using drugs in the new council facility.
Avondale residents were not included in a public consultation exercise because of a blunder in the planning process, but have complained about the location of the play park since they found out where it was being built.
Johny Mitchell lives right beside the new play park and has a young six-year-old daughter who uses the facility.
He said: “The park is absolutely fantastic, the council has done a great job on it and my kids would be the first in it. But it is where they put it that’s the problem.”
