Teenager charged over Cloughfern protest trouble

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with riotous assembly and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

The teenager, who is expected to appear before Belfast Youth Court on Friday, March 29, was arrested in the Newtownabbey area on Tuesday, March 5 by detectives from the Operation Dulcet Enquiry Team.

It’s understood the charges relate to serious public disorder which erupted at Cloughfern Corner on January 11 following a loyalist flag protest.

As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
