SOME of the biggest names in Irish music will be performing at a very special charity concert at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall studio on Sunday, May 20.
The event, which will feature the legendary Miami Showband (Des Lee, Ray Miller, Gerry Brown, Barry Woods & Trevor Miller), Hugo Duncan, Muriel Day, Brendan Quinn, Justin McGurk and some surprise special guests, will raise much-needed funds for the Children’s Hospice in Glengormley.
The audience can expect to hear some of the biggest showband tunes from that golden era, plus some great country music from some of finest artists on the circuit today.
Talking about the concert, Miami Showband star Des Lee said he had decided to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice following a conversation with his wife Brenda, shortly before she died of cancer.
“One day I went to visit her in hospital, and she could see how I was so upset and heartbroken. She turned to me and said, ‘There is a child here dying of cancer and that child is only four years old. I have had a good life and that child will have none’. My late wife adored children and she was so looking forward to having a grandchild. Sadly it was not to be, so I chose this charity in her honour,” he explained.
