Newtownabbey road reopens after gas leak

Motorists are advised that the Longwood Road in Newtownabbey has reopened following an earlier gas leak.

The incident, close to the Abbey Centre, was reported to the emergency services shortly before 1pm today.

Police and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) personnel attended the incident.

Two appliances from Whitla Fire Station and one appliance from Glengormley Fire Station attended the scene.

Providing an update, a PSNI spokesperson said: “The Longwood Road in Newtownabbey has re-opened following a gas leak in the area earlier.”

A Department for Infrastructure (DfI) spokesperson added: “The A2 Shore Road has now re-opened following an earlier gas leak.”
