TROCAIRE is appealing for people across Newtownabbey to return their Trocaire boxes this weekend (April 21 and 22) so that the charity can secure a government funding boost.
“We were delighted to have been selected to receive matched funding from the UK government for this Lenten campaign,” explained Eithne McNulty, Trocaire’s Regional Manager. “This means that the government will match public donations made in Northern Ireland to Trocaire during Lent pound for pound up to a total of £900,000. With this extra money we can help tens of thousands more people in northern Uganda access land and grow enough food to feed their families.”
“I would like to thank everyone who has taken a Trocaire box into their homes,” Ms McNulty added. “Their initiative in taking a box is making an extraordinary contribution to changing the lives of some of the world’s poorest people.”
People can still donate to Trocaire online at www.trocaire.org/lent or by calling 0800 912 1200.
