TWO men have been fined for littering offences after Newtownabbey Borough Council took them to court.
At Monday’s Environment Committee councillors were informed that Michael Fox was fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £104 at a hearing in Belfast Magistrates’ Court on January 22.
Fox of The Bridges, Newtownabbey did not appear in court. He was charged with failing to respond to a request for information after litter was thrown from a vehicle in Farmley car park in February last year.
Damon Guest was also charged with failing to respond to a request for information, this time, after litter was thrown from a car in Farmley car park on a date in July last year.
Guest, of Alliance Road in Belfast did not appear in Belfast Magistrates’ Court on February 12 and was fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £101.
Meanwhile, between the period of January 24 and February 23 this year the council has issued 36 fixed penalty notices for a variety of offences including litter and fouling.
During the same period the council begun proceedings on one prosecution.
