Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is investing in the refurbishment of the slides in the Valley and Sixmile Leisure Centres.

Whilst the Sixmile slide is operational, the slide at the Valley Leisure Centre has been out of use for a number of years.

Commenting on the closure, a spokesperson for the local authority said: “Work at the Valley Leisure Centre is scheduled to take place from March 26 to April 13 and all user groups have been contacted about the closure, including participants of a council triathlon event.

“No complaints have been received. Swimming pools at Sixmile and Antrim Forum Leisure Centres will be open during this period.”

The council spokesperson added: “The timing of the maintenance has been chosen to minimise disruption to the successful swimming lesson programme with over 1,000 children and 32 schools participating each week.

“Loss of income is expected to be in the region of £4,290

“A comprehensive communication plan is in place to raise awareness of the closure and to promote the swimming facilities at Sixmile Leisure Centre and Antrim Forum.”
