Speaking at the CAB’s annual general meeting in the Dunanney Centre, Billy Snoddy revealed that the Bureau is currently helping clients deal with more than £12million of debt, including mortgage arrears, pay day loans and credit card bills.

He said that ongoing economic uncertainty and welfare reforms mean that increasing numbers of people are having to turn to the local CAB - more than 16,000 clients last year alone - for help with problems such as benefits, fuel poverty, food poverty and debt.

“We are becoming more and more important and yet our funding is decreasing and decreasing because the funding isn’t about in order to give us the funds to provide the advice that’s needed,” he said.

Mr Snoddy urged anyone seeking help and advice to contact Newtownabbey CAB on 028 9085 2271 or to email [email protected]
