Work recently got under way on a major scheme to refurbish Monkstown Community Centre.
The project, which is costing £250,000, will include improvement works to the interior and exterior of the building.
The centre will also be extended to provide a purpose built space for the ‘Good Morning Newtownabbey’ volunteer telephone service for the elderly and vulnerable.
Speaking at the official launch of the works last week, Mayor Billy Webb commented: “This will give a fantastic new look to a key resource within Monkstown and I wish the local community all the very best in operating the centre when it reopens in the next few months.”
The Chairman of Monkstown Community Group, David McCrea added: “The local community group have worked very hard over many years to have the centre refurbished and we can’t wait to move back in and make this centre a vibrant and attractive facility for all the community.”
