Approximately 71 million users part with £9.99 a month in order to enjoy uninterrupted music on Spotify.

Few of us know how to get the most out of the music streaming app, however.

Follow these tips to maximise your Spotify experience.

Student discount

If you're studying at university or college you can slash the cost of your Spotify subscription by 50%.

Users in part or full-time education are only required to pay £4.99 a month - £5 less than fellow users.

Link with Shazam

There are few things more frustrating than being unable to identify the catchy tune playing when you're out and about.

The Shazam app has been helping users overcome this problem with its acoustic fingerprint recognition technology - and the link can be connected to you Spotify account so you can get listening to your overheard songs immediately.

Do this by opening your Shazam app, tapping the MyShazam icon and connect the app to Spotify.

Link with Tinder

Singletons looking to impress admirers with their impeccable taste in music can do so by linking their Spotify account with dating app Tinder.

Simply open the edit info tab on Tinder and reveal your favourite "anthem" and artists via Spotify.

Recover deleted playlists

Surprisingly it is straightforward to resurrect playlists you had previously consigned to the digital dustbin.

Simply visit your account page, select the restore playlist tab and bring your playlist back to life.

Private session

Looking to indulge in your favourite Ricky Martin tracks, but ashamed of your love for the Livin' La Vida Loca singer?

Opt for a private session, which will prevent fellow users from observing your obscure listening habits. The private session tab can be found in the drop down menu at the top right of the app.

Add crossfades

Hosts looking to give their pre-drinks playlist a professional touch can do so by enabling crossfades.

Simply head to preferences, select advanced settings and turn on "crossfade songs", and Bob's your uncle, you're the next Calvin Harris.

Enjoy brand new music

If you want to freshen up your playlist, it's worth browsing the Your Daily Mix section - which can be found under the Your Music tab.

This consists of several never-ending and constantly shuffling playlists fresh with latest releases and catered to different music tastes.
