Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has revealed he and his family have all tested positive for Covid-19.

The former WWE wrestler turned actor said he, along with his wife and two daughters aged four and two, had contracted the virus about two-and-a-half weeks ago.

He described the positive tests as "a kick in the gut".

However, Johnson confirmed that the family has since recovered: "We're on the other end of it and no longer contagious. Thank God, we're healthy."

He said despite being a "disciplined" family about health protection they had caught it from "very close family friends" who, in turn, had no idea how they had been infected.

What did 'The Rock' say about the use of masks?

Johnson revealed the news in a video posted to his Instagram account, in which he said some peoples' refusal to wear a protective face mask confused him.

"It baffles me that some people out there, including some politicians, will take this idea of wearing masks and make it part of a political agenda.

"It has nothing to do with politics. Wear your mask. It is a fact. And it is the right thing to do."

His video came with an accompanying written message to "control the controllables".

He wrote to his fans "My message to all of you... Stay disciplined. Boost your immune system. Commit to wellness. Wear your mask. Protect your family. Be strict about having people over your house or gatherings. Stay positive. And care for your fellow human beings. Stay healthy, my friends. #controlthecontrollables".

In his video he explained the personal effect of contracting the virus, describing it as "one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family".

"Testing positive for Covid-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times," he added.

"My number one priority is to always protect my family."

"We are counting our blessings right now because we're well aware that it isn't always the case that you get on the other end of Covid-19 stronger and healthier," said Johnson.
