Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has issued an urgent recall to customers who may have bought a pesto product which contains an undeclared food item.

Undeclared peanuts

Sainsbury’s has recalled numerous types of its own-brand pesto products, over fears they may contain undeclared peanuts.

The supermarket has issued point-of-sale notices to customers, advising them to contact the relevant allergy helpline for advice if needed.

What should I do if I’ve bought one of these products?

The Foods Standards Agency (FSA) explains: “If you have bought any of the above products and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat them.

“Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”

Which pesto products are included in the recall?

All of the packs recalled are 190 grams each.

The Food Standards Agency said: “Sainsbury’s is recalling various pesto products listed below because they may contain peanuts, which are not mentioned on the label.

“This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.”
