TCC’s derby win preceded by defeats to Lurgan and Derriaghy

A five wickets defeat by Lurgan in midweek was followed by an even heavier defeat by Derriaghy on Saturday, but on Sunday Robert Smith’s lads had something to smile about when they won with seven wickets to spare against local rivals Academy.

Thursday evening’s clash with Lurgan at The Cloughan was played under the Twenty20 format, but even the shorter form of the game was interrupted by rain.

The visitors amassed a daunting total of 194 for 4 in an innings dominated by Godhole (80) and Johnston (71). Ross Bryans was the most successful bowler with 3 for 34.

A squally shower caused play to be suspended, and following Duckworth-Lewis calculations, TCC were set a revised target of 184 in 19 overs, but they were restricted to 149 for 5.

Top scorer was Smith (38), with useful contributions from Bob Homani (21) and James Jackson (20).

Promotion candidate Derriaghy lost little time in wrapping up the points on Saturday afternoon.

Visiting bowlers Lewis and Stinson each bagged three wickets, while Cummins and Bell each had a brace, as the hosts were skittled out for only 90.

In reply the Lisburn lads raced to 92 for 3, with Smith (2 for 30) and Bryans (1 for 11) the successful bowlers.
