Ballymena League, Intermediate Division: Four Daniel Ellis goals laid the foundation for Ballynure OB’s massive 7-1 victory in Cookstown.
Sofia Farm were the victims with Robert Houston, Paul McIntyre and Mark Leckey also getting their names on the scorecard.
Straight from the kick-off without an opponent touching the ball the ‘Nure lads were one up when Michael Duff and Robert Houston teed it up for Ellis to apply the finishing touch.
Ellis made it 2-0 at the break, when his shot was deflected past the overworked keeper.
Houston scored the best goal of the match when he fired into the roof of the net from outside the box before Ellis completed his hat-trick with a header.
McIntyre had been a constant threat down the left and he was rewarded with the fifth goal, before Sofia prevented the whitewash with a breakaway strike.
In the closing stages Paul Leckey nodded home from a Todd corner, before Ellis blasted in his fourth in to the bottom corner.
“We were totally dominant after taking the lead after only 12 seconds, and it could have been a cricket score,” said manager Gary Burns. Nearest challengers, Newtowne, slipped up at the weekend when they were beaten by Dunloy.
