Kieran Harding insists there are positives to be gleaned from Carrick Rangers' poor start to the season.

Wednesday night’s 4-1 defeat to champions Crusaders came just four days after a 4-0 reverse to Glenavon.

Two games down, two defeats and eight goals conceded – already the Taylor’s Avenue club is staring down the barrel of a potential season-long relegation scrap.

But Harding – who replaced Gary Haveron as boss during the summer – is remaining positive despite the disappointing start.

“I thought we set ourselves our well against Crusaders,” Harding said.

“We are putting a new team together here, so we are a little behind of where we want to be.

“I thought Wednesday night was an improvement on the opening day defeat, and we worked hard and defended solidly.

“That might seem strange given we conceded four goals, but we can take positives from the game.”

Carrick have been handed a daunting start to the season, with their next test a trip to The Oval to face Glentoran on Saturday.

“It is a very tough schedule for us,” the Carrick boss added.

“Glenavon and Crusaders are top teams, and now we have Glentoran who are another massive club with big ambitions.

“They don’t come any harder than those fixtures. But it shows what we will be up against this season.”
