Players let themselves down, says Campbell

“In the 20-odd years I’ve been looking after teams, this is in the top four or five worst performances I’ve had. It’s as bad as that. It’s as if they just didn’t care about it, they just did their own thing – a bit like a half-paced five-a-side game for some of them. And this was the exact same starting line-up that looked so good, winning 4-0 at Iveagh the week before.”

This weekend’s trip to a high-flying Colin Valley side, still unbeaten in 1C, is the perfect chance to hopefully get the Clarence calamity out of their system. Mossley are on the same number of points as Valley, but with five extra games under their belts.

Valley were narrow 2-1 winners at Mossley on the first Saturday in November where there was little between the sides and Campbell is hoping for a reaction. “They know they let themselves down. Now they’ve got the chance to put things right,” he said.
