Rathcoole edged out by Dunloy at The Diamond

McReynolds League Cup: Rathcoole FC lost 1-0 to Dunloy in a tight game at The Diamond.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the second half followed a similar pattern until Dunloy broke the deadlock when Benny McGarry set up the chance for John McFerran to score.

Rathcoole had chances of their own, but they couldn’t crack a resolute Dunloy defence.

In Junior Division One, Castle Star defeated Carnmoney 6-3 at Taylor’s Avenue 3G pitch.

Castle went in front after Dean Meneely scored in the second minute and they doubled their lead through Mark Thompson.

Things got even better for the Carrick men when Meneely netted his second, followed by goal number four from Thompson. Carnmoney, four down inside 30 minutes, pulled two back before the break courtesy of Darren Jordan and Michael Streight.

Nathan Poulter scored Castle’s fifth after the interval but back came Carnmoney through Craig Montgomery in the 63rd minute. Castle rounded things off with an 83rd-minute penalty which was converted by Warren Brown.

Ballyclare North End lost 3-2 to Division Two stablemates Remo at Six Mile Water Leisure Centre. The North End goals were scored by Graham Baird and Robert Watson with strikes from James Brown, Adam Agnew and Eoin Bradley edging it for Remo.

Elsewhere, FC Whiteabbey had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 3-3 draw with Cookstown RBL.

Whiteabbey went two up thanks to Gerard Southam and Johnny Montgomery. Despite having a man sent off before half-time, Cookstown got back on level terms with goals from Ricky McMenemy and Andy Kelso. Conor Mullan looked to have sealed all three points when he netted in the 85th minute but the visitors were awarded a late penalty as Whiteabbey were themselves reduced to 10 men. Simon Young converted the resultant spot-kick.

In Division Four, 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys defeated Glengormley United 3-0. A Craig Jenkins strike was the in between two Steven Howe goals gave the Old Boys three points.
