UUJ made it through to the last 16 of the Steel and Sons with a win in Saturday’s ‘varsity match’ against Queen’s at the Dub.

Jordanstown manager Darrach Teague maintained: “We fully deserved it, another good performance, and we have players still to come in. It’s also pleasing to land a third clean sheet in a row!”

Queen’s had a couple of early offerings, without really troubling keeper

Eamon Browne.

The game was reduced to 10-a-side on the half-hour, with two men seeing red.

Ten minutes into the second half, UUJ broke the ice; Lawrence Lyons coming from deep to head John Donaldson’s inviting cross past the keeper.

UUJ could have been more convincing winners with Donaldson deprived by the keeper and Anto Stuart zipping one just wide.

UUJ: Browne – McBriarty, Ferguson, Campbell, Esler – Lyons, McCart, Stuart, McCann- Scollay (McKeown), Donaldson (R Kelly) (Maxwell).
