Fifteen County Antrim Harriers joined nearly 700 other runners at Antrim Castle gardens for the penultimate race in the Born 2 Run, Run Forest Run, 10k Trail series on Saturday.
This was a new venue for the series, and the relatively flat route took runners around the Castle gardens and through the grounds of Shane’s Castle.
The Harriers were in impressive form, with the ever-improving Graeme O’Hara crossing the line first (44:15), followed quickly by Louise Smart (45:16), Aaron Anderson (46:23) and Lyn Hardie (48:22). Randall Smyth (50:09), Irene Downey (50:27), Raymond Hilman (52:56) and Talitha Collins (56:07) also gave strong performances.
Next, finishing within just a few places of each other, came Martina Toal (1:00:08), Kim Gleave (1:00:32), Diane McCartney (1:01:30), Marion Morrow (1:02:16), Ally Bennett (1:03:21), Tony Barclay (1:03:56) and Grace Startin (1:04:23). Both Kim and Tony ran the Antrim parkrun as a warm-up to their races.
The Harriers are continuing to enjoy an increase in membership, with 30-40 runners out each Monday and Wednesday night.
This year the club hosts its first Couch To 5k programme. This will run on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-7pm, over nine weeks, to help aspiring runners (minimum age 16) get up and get running in time for the club’s May Fair 5k on May 28. The cost is £20, but that includes free entry to May Fair 5k plus race goodie bag! Registration will be on Monday, March 7 anytime from 6pm to 8pm, at Sixmile Leisure Centre.
