The Ulster Hockey Senior Three basement battle between Parkview Ladies and Enniskillen Ladies failed to produce a single goal in County Fermanagh.

With both teams threatened with relegation, the emphasis was on not losing, so scoring opportunities were at a premium in Saturday afternoon’s clash.

Jenny Wallace, Rosemary Dundee and Penny Purdy all stood out in the Parkview defence, while Clare McClean and Toni Smallwood counter-attacked down the left flank without success.

On the opposite wing, Wallace and Purdy tried to create scoring chances, but got little change out of a strong home defence.

Parkview did manage to force one penalty corner from which Nikki Turkington had a shot blocked on the line, so at the break the scorecard remained blank.

Enniskillen threatened more in the second session forcing Sharon Gaffney to make three diving saves, including one from the hosts’ only penalty corner of the game.

Jenny Morrison, Turkington and Caroline Coulter had one good move down the left side, but once again the defence prevailed when the ball reached the circle.

Overall a draw was a fair result.

Parkview Ladies: S Gaffney, R Dundee, P Purdy, J Wallace, L Brady, J Morrison, C McClean, C Coulter, T Smallwood, N Turkington.

Seconds defeat

Jenna Maxwell scored both goals in Parkview II’s 2-1 win against Coleraine II in a Junior League fixture at Foundry Lane.

On Saturday the seniors will be idle, having received a bye in the first round of the Intermediate Plate.
