Harriers hit the wall in Berline

EAST Antrim Harriers were represented by a number of runners in the Berlin Marathon recently.

A group of five members of the Ballyclare-based club took part in the race considered to be one of the world’s top marathons.

Sam Crawford ran well to achieve 2hr 49.06 and Colin James in 2hr 50.52, followed by Steve Gibson’s 4hr 5.08 and Christine Shields in 4hr 14.18.

Michael Coville covered the distance in 4hr 37min and Wesley Wallace in 4hr 26.25.

Three Harriers recently completed the NI Athletics Half Marathon Series by finishing events in Larne, Omagh, Newry, Lisburn, Ards and Cookstown. Michael Colville, Jim Davison and Sandra Mayne are among a small group of runners from across Northern Ireland to tackle all six events.

Jeanette Burton has been elected East Antrim Harriers’ first female chair in the club’s 104-year history.

East Antrim Harriers, who meet at Harrier Way, Ballyclare, most Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm. welcome new members.
